Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. to Preview Ethersound Stage Box At AES
Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. will add to its already extensive line of digital audio network solutions for the installation and tour sound markets with the U.S. preview of the SB168-ES Stage Box during the AES Show. The new digital Stage Box will be located in the company's demo room, #120, and will be used as part of two training classes offered throughout the show. The classes will be 60-90 minutes in length and will cover Digital Networks for Sound Reinforcement and an Advanced Class on the Yamaha PM5D-EX console. Check the Yamaha ad on the back cover of the AES Daily each day for specific times.

The cost-effective SB168-ES is a scalable solution offering 16 channels of remote-controlled analog mic/line inputs, each with its own high-quality head amp, combined with eight line outputs, all at 48 kHz.

Neumann Introduces the Digital Version of the Classic TLM 103
Neumann is introducing the TLM 103 D, the next classic microphone to enter the digital realm, at the 125th AES Show in San Francisco. When used in conjunction with digital workstations, Neumann Solution-D microphone technology makes life easier for users. The integrated, extremely fast, peak limiter guarantees optimal recording levels at all times. Likewise, the Neumann A/D converter built into the microphone eliminates the necessity of tedious experimentation with external converters and preamps.

The TLM 103 D is available in nickel and black, with a stand mount. Starter kits are also available, consisting of the microphone, an elastic suspension and a connection kit for direct connection to an AES/EBU or S/PDIF interface. The TLM 103 D is in stores now with an MSRP of $2,650.00.

TEC Honors Ray Benson With Les Paul Award
The Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio is honoring musician, producer and composer Ray Benson, the founder and leader of the Western swing group Asleep at the Wheel, with the prestigious Les Paul Award at the 24th Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards. Sponsored by the Gibson Foundation, the award will be presented on Friday, October 3 at San Francisco's Westin St. Francis, on the second night of the annual Audio Engineering Society (AES) Convention.

Named for the legendary musician, inventor and pioneer of multitrack recording, the Les Paul Award was established in 1991 to honor the lifetime achievements of musical artists and others whose work has exemplified the creative use of recording technology. Benson joins illustrious past honorees Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Steely Dan, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Brian Wilson and other innovative artists and producers.
